Q: What is MyGoldWorth?
MyGoldWorth is a mobile app that helps you track your gold and silver portfolio. You can record items by weight and purity, and the app calculates their current market value in real-time using live precious metal prices.
Q: How do I add a gold or silver item?
Tap the "+" button on the home screen, then enter the item details:
- Item name (e.g., "Wedding Ring", "Silver Coin")
- Weight in grams
- Purity (e.g., 24K = 99.9%, 18K = 75%, Sterling Silver = 92.5%)
- Optional: Purchase price and date for profit/loss tracking
Q: Where is my data stored?
All your portfolio data is stored locally on your device using SQLite database. We do NOT upload your data to any servers. Your information stays completely private and secure on your device.
Q: How accurate are the gold and silver prices?
We fetch real-time prices from a reliable precious metals API. Prices are updated regularly and reflect current market rates. However, actual selling prices may vary depending on your dealer and market conditions.
Q: What if I see "Price Service Unavailable"?
This message appears when the app cannot fetch current prices from the API (due to internet connectivity or API issues). Your data is safe, and prices will update once the connection is restored. Try refreshing or checking your internet connection.
Q: How do I track profit/loss?
When adding or editing an item, fill in the "Purchase Information" section with:
- Purchase price per gram
- Purchase date
The app will automatically calculate your profit/loss and ROI (Return on Investment) based on current market prices.
Q: What purity percentages should I use?
Common gold purities:
- 24K (pure gold): 99.9%
- 22K: 91.6%
- 18K: 75%
- 14K: 58.3%
- 10K: 41.7%
Common silver purities:
- Fine silver: 99.9%
- Sterling silver: 92.5%
- Coin silver: 90%
Q: Can I export my data?
Currently, data export is not available, but this feature is on our roadmap for future updates. Your data remains secure on your device.
Q: Why do I see ads in the app?
MyGoldWorth is a free app supported by advertisements (Google AdMob). Ads help us keep the app free while continuing to provide updates and improvements. Ads are displayed respectfully and don't interfere with core functionality.
Q: How do I delete an item?
On the home screen, swipe left on any item to reveal the delete option, or tap the item to edit and look for the delete button.
Q: What currencies are supported?
Currently, the app displays values in USD and EUR. You can switch between currencies using the dropdown in the home screen.
Q: Will my data be backed up?
Since data is stored locally, it may be backed up as part of your device's system backup (iCloud for iOS, Google Drive for Android). If you uninstall the app, you may lose your data unless it's included in your device backup.
